Playlist [90s Style 2 - True Slack (Indie)]

Indie can mean a lot of things. It was originally used to specify that a band was unsigned or on a small record label. I'm sure that's what the moniker was intended to denote. That's certainly what it did indicate back in the college radio days. Since the advent of the internet it's taken on a whole new meaning. Now, the term is almost synonymous with Alternative. This list is comprised of indie music from the 90s, which fell between those two phenomenon.

These bands, this sound, is what comes into my mind when I hear the words "indie" and "rock" used together. Despite some (most?) of them being on a big label, they capture the free and independent spirit of a group of people jamming in their garage because they love it. If you have a guitar/drum set, making music like this is the best way to use it.

I almost drown in nostalgia listening to this compilation. I can't help but flash back to the last summers of my youth. Adrift with no responsibility, there was nothing but music and friends and new experiences on the horizon. There was no reason not to be tranquil and content.  I was never more at peace.

The best way to experience this playlist is as follows...  Wait for a warm summer night. Lay outside, on a flat surface (preferably a picnic table) and stare up at the stars while listening. Headphones are optional, but recommended. I can guarantee your stress level will drop exponentially.
