Faded Paper Figures - Breathing
Lets start Side B with some nice electronics shall we. Breathing has a great synth sound. It's too bad about what it doesn't have, and that's a video. In fact, none of the songs from this album have videos yet, so I'll have to use Relatively from their last album.

Wildcat! Wildcat! - Circuit Breaker
So.... I really like the song I put on the playlist. Circuit Breaker is catchy and with a great electro hook. Otherwise most of their stuff sounds like MGMT on a bad day. And Circuit Breaker doesn't have a video. I'm not posting any of their other videos because I don't particularly like any of them. Instead enjoy this informative video on how to replace a faulty circuit breaker, which I do not recommend doing yourself.
The New Pornographers - War On The East Coast
New Pornographers are a band that I should like far more than I do. They have all the elements of a group that I would love. Both male and female singers, synthesizer guitar combos, catchy pop hooks, good lyrics, etc. Yet for some reason I barely ever listen to them. This new album is a bit hit and miss for me but this song (and video) are definitely one of the hits.
Rubblebucket - Carousel Ride
I've been a fan of Rubblebucket since I first heard the song Came Out Of A Lady, which is better than a song has any right to be. They keep making good material and I keep putting it on playlists. The video for this odd song is equally as odd. This is my kind of band.
The Rentals - Stardust
The Rentals have been one of my favorite bands since the first time I saw Friends of P on the MTV. Matt Sharp hits all my happy buttons with his fuzz bass, harmony, analog synths, and a sense of longing/nostalgia for a previous chapter in your life. His new album is very aggressive with a more immediate feel about it. The guitars are louder. The synths have more of a sharp edge (no pun intended). It feels like everyone is playing just a little faster than they have to. It feels exciting. Matt has help from a great crew this time out. The girls from Lucius and drummer from the Black Keys to name a few. Stardust is my favorite on the album. Just the way the girls harmonize "clouds" in the chorus is enough to make a viking berserker swoon. Matt doesn't make with the visuals, though. So here's one from the best video from the first album. Remember when Maya Rudolph was in the band?
OK Go - Turn Up The Radio
We all know who OK Go are. The best power pop band around and the makers of the best one take videos that you will ever see. I liked the song Turn Up The Radio better from their new EP, but the video you are about to see is nothing short of astounding. Behold the amazingness of OK Go.
The Maine - Ugly On the Inside
Here's another band that doesn't have a video for the only song that I like by them. The Maine are a generally OK band. This song reminds me of old Jimmy Eat World. I'm not sure what's up with the band name. They're from Arizona. But who doesn't like Maine.
Pallbearer - Foundations
DOOOOOOM METAL-AH! I HAVE SOME DOOOOOOOOM METAL HERE-AH! And like all Doom Metal songs it is over 8 minutes long. Please pace yourself while headbanging. Since nobody has time to watch a doom metal video either lets watch some of my favorite Pallb... I mean, Paul Bearer.
FKA Twigs - Closer
I don't even know how to describe FKA Twigs. Somewhere in the space between Trip-Hop and Soul lies a place of uneasy tension. FKA Twigs is from that place. I wish there was a video for Closer because it is the most palatable song on LP1. But there isn't. Prepare your brain for something far outside the realm of pop if you decide to watch the video for Two Weeks. Remember, no one is making you.
Busdriver feat. Aesop Rock and Danny Brown - Ego Death
End with a bang. The hip hop finale features three of the best rappers out there. Busdriver has to be very, very good to be able to bring in talent like these two guests. The video is a strange post apocalyptic virtual reality simulation. In the hook Aesop sings "We can make this better." I don't know how they would.
So a good 50% of those had real videos. Some didn't. It was a fun experiment. Let me know what you thought.
That's it for this quarter. I should be back with more new stuff come the end of November. Until then there's more of the 90s series coming and maybe more theme lists. We'll see how much time I can muster for it.
Now turn off those U-Tubes and go listen to some music.
